About your host

Ian

I am a kanaka (Hawaiian) and a proud graduate of the prestigious Kamehameha Schools. I continued my studies at the University of Hawaii. E ola ka ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi. The Hawaiian language lives on!

What we'll do

Learn the basics of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language). We will cover nā pīʻāpā (the alphabets), pronunciation, and common phrases. We will also learn a very simple oli (chant) and cross examine similarities between the Hawaiian language and other Polynesian languages (i.e., Tahitian, Maori, Samoan, etc...)

What I'll provide
Pen and paper.

What to bring
Pen and paper.

What else you should know
Dress comfortably for a mix of hot and chilly weather. Have questions? Contact host.

Where you'll be

We will gather at "Kehalani Mauka Park," which at this time does not have an official address. The best closest address belongs to Pu'u Kukui Elementary School (3700 Kehalani Mauka Pkwy, Wailuku, HI 96793). Do NOT turn into the school -- keep driving straight BUT slow down, the park will be to the right. Look for a big Hawaiian flag, that will be me.
